One of my pet peeves is being stuck in a classroom with a teacher who reads a PP presentation to me.  HELLO - I know how to read!  Those of you in the URI Adult Ed Master's program who have taken the Presentation class with Dr. Peno know exactly what I am talking about.  To those of you who have not taken this class, I would strongly recommend you do so.  Here are 2 examples of presentations, both by Steve Jobs.  Which one would you rather watch?

Steve Jobs Introducing the iPhone

Thanks to Dr. Peno for teaching us the importance of a good presentation!

I recently uploaded a video of a presentation done for a prior class.  Here is the Prezi that the video was based upon.

Okay - so I'm uploading a link to a video I made over the summer for EDC 586.  Please keep in mind the goal of this project was to learn a new technology.  I chose to use a lesson plan that I was very familiar with so that I could concentrate on the technology piece.  It's a fairly long video, so if you just see a quick clip of it, you'll get the idea.

As you watch the video, the Prezi on the 5-Paragraph Essay lesson is running behind me :)

While reading "Television Goes to School," my mind immediately went to Sesame Street.  I cannot tell you the knowledge gained from watching this show - both for me and for my kids :)  What little Spanish I know, I owe to Sesame Street.  It is imperative to remember that, as with any lesson, we need to tell our students what the expectations are before we implement the lesson.  Otherwise, they are simply watching TV with no purpose.

Teaching an Old Dog...

Tomorrow is my birthday, so you actually can teach an old dog new tricks.  I just added a photo (of Molly) to my profile.

Meet Molly

This is Molly.  She's 2 years old, and she has more personality than any dog you've ever met :)  She loves to play fetch, hide & seek, & catch. She also love to hike and run on the beach; but Molly's favorite activity (after shredding a good roll of tp) is chasing our two cats.  We keep trying to tell her that they're her sisters, but she hasn't quite caught on yet.

I am starting this blog in conjunction with a master's level class in classroom technology.  My hope is to combine my teaching skills with my newly-gained, ever-expanding knowledge of technology to become a better writing instructor.
